West: Still On the Board

Eddie Vanderdoes

Scout takes a look at the West's four and five stars that have yet to finalize their college decision, some committed but taking trips, some still to commit, when they could decide and who's in the best position to get their signatures...

There are 12 four-stars and one five-star out West that have yet to firm up their commitment.

Scout takes a look at that group and offers the latest on each elite prospect.

Eddie Vanderdoes | No. 2 | DT | Auburn (Calif.) Placer
Scheduled Visits: Notre Dame (1/25) and Alabama (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Vanderdoes is keeping things really close to the vest, despite being pulled in several different directions.  The longtime USC commit opened things up in December, after he had taken visits to UCLA and Washington.  He's visited USC already and will trip to Notre Dame this weekend and Alabama next weekend.  Vanderdoes said he hopes to have a decision made by Signing Day, but if not, he'll go past if he needs to.  Its hard to pick a school in the driver's seat for him, especially with visits the next two weekends.

Isaac Savaiinaea | No. 3 | MLB | Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou
Scheduled Visits: None Scheduled
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: This has been a two horse race for months with Texas A&M and UCLA battling it out. The linebacker was planning to commit at the Under Armour All-American game but said he wasn't ready. Savaiinaea has played things very close to the vest this whole recruitment but with A&M filling up at the linebacker position and Brian Polian, the 'backers lead recruiter, leaving for Nevada, you have to feel good about the Bruins chances right now.

Myles Jack | No. 4 | OLB | Bellevue (Wash.)
Scheduled Visits: Washington (1/25) and Florida State (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Jack has been committed to UCLA since June, and while he's visited Arizona State and Utah, as well as UCLA, he's not quite done with his trips.  He'll visit Washington this weekend and then trip to Florida State next weekend.  Jack said after his official visit to UCLA, he was reaffirming his commitment to the Bruins.  Still, the Huskies have the local angle that they'll be sure to play up this weekend and Florida State has the Southern angle, which could help given Jack's ties to the South.  None of the schools will give up on Jack, despite him saying he's signing with the Bruins.

Tyrell Robinson | No. 5 | OLB | San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln
Tyree Robinson | No. 17 | WR | San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln
Scheduled Visits: Washington (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Late January-Early February
The Skinny: The Robinson twins are a package deal and committed last September to Oregon. They recently opened up the process and took an official visit to USC. Ohio State is involved and the twins may take an official visit next weekend to Washington. The Ducks came in for a home visit earlier this week and the feeling is the twins are back in the fold with Oregon at this time.

Devon Allen | No. 16 | WR | Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep
Scheduled Visits: Arkansas (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Allen will take an official visit to Arkansas the weekend before Signing Day, and he's still waiting for word on his admission into Stanford.  UCLA has been in a good place for him for some time, but the Stanford visit made an impression.  Oregon had offered him for track but not for football, until this week.  Now, the Ducks and Razorbacks, who have excellent track programs, are hoping to push that angle, while Stanford continues to impress the academics on Allen.  Meanwhile, UCLA is hoping his high interest in them holds strong.  Each of those schools seem to be a legit contender for him.

Kylie Fitts | No. 25 | DE | Redlands (Calif.) East Valley
Scheduled Visits: Notre Dame (1/25) and Utah (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Another longtime commit to USC, Fitts opened things up this month when his plans to enroll early at USC were postponed by the Trojans.  Since then, he's visited UCLA and will trip to Notre Dame and Utah the next two weekend.  He also visited Washington during the season, but the feeling is that he'll be staying in Southern California, with the question being does he stick with the Trojans despite them pushing him back or does he flip to UCLA and end up a Bruin.

Nico Falah | No. 17 | OT | Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
Scheduled Visits: None Scheduled
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Falah is a longtime USC commit but Washington has made a strong late push and this one looks almost too close to call. The tackle took his official visit to USC over the weekend but returned home and said he was still as confused as ever. Both schools will be coming in for home visits over the next week and that could seal the deal for one of the two Pac 12 schools but at this point, call this one a coin toss.

Cameron Judge | No. 20 | OLB | Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian
Scheduled Visits: None Scheduled
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: A long time commit to UCLA, Judge took an official visit to Arizona State last weekend and the Sun Devils are now very much in contention to flip the four-star.  Part of the reason for the Sun Devils making a move was what Judge deemed a lack of communication coming from UCLA, which Arizona State, which signed one of his close friends, Carlos Mendoza, a year ago, pounced on.  He was considering deciding in the next week, but now appears to be waiting until Signing Day to choose between signing with the Sun Devils or the Bruins.

L.J. Moore | No. 24 | CB | Fresno (Calif.) Central
Scheduled Visits: None scheduled
Decision Timeline: Late January/Early February
The Skinny: Moore has been a longtime lean to Oregon State but has been unable to pull the trigger. He has taken official visits to Oklahoma and Arizona State in recent weeks and called the trip his final three. The dark horse here is California. Moore will take an unofficial visit to Berkeley this weekend and the feeling from some close to Moore's recruitment is the Bears have a chance to pull off the late steal.

Darren Carrington | No. 37 | WR | San Diego (Calif.) Horizon
Scheduled Visits: Ohio State (2/1)
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: Carrington pledged to Oregon in June and seemed to be solid, but once Chip Kelly left for the NFL, he immediately took an official visit to Arizona that weekend.  Now, he'll visit Ohio State the weekend before Signing Day. He said after his visit to Arizona that he was pretty much solid with the Ducks, but Ohio State is going to make a big push for him.  The feeling is, though, that if the Robinson twins stick with the Ducks, Carrington, a San Diego native like them, will still with Oregon too.  And all signs are pointing that direction.

Cameron Hunt | No. 15| OG | Corona (Calif.) Centennial
Scheduled Visits: California (1/25)
Decision Timeline: Late January/Early February
The Skinny: Hunt committed to California last July but has opened things up a bit to take some of his official visits. The lineman checked out Ohio State, Michigan and was in Oregon last weekend. The Ducks made a big impression and if he was deciding today, Oregon might be the team to beat. That being said, Hunt will take his final visit this weekend to Cal so the Bears will have a chance to make a strong lasting impression in order to keep him in the fold.

Sebastian LaRue | No. 44 | WR | Santa Monica
Scheduled Visits: None Scheduled
Decision Timeline: Signing Day
The Skinny: LaRue was an early commitment to USC but de-committed a few weeks ago while at the Under Armour All-American game. He visited Texas A&M last week and the Aggies are in a good position. LaRue was supposed to visit Notre Dame this coming weekend but that was canceled. He visited Washington State during the season and schools like Utah, Texas and Texas Tech are also involved but A&M looks to be the leader at this time.
