White talks about his 12-stitch cut

Simply put, UNLV forward Wendell White is one tough dude. White had to leave UNLV’s 80-70 victory over Wyoming on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center after suffering a bad cut to the throat after catching an elbow from Wyoming guard Brad Jones while taking a charge.
The 6-foot-6 senior laid on the floor for about three minutes while being attending to by team doctors and trainers. He finally was able to sit up and then slowly walked back to the locker room under his own power with a towel tightly pressed to the injury.
“My chin hurts me but I got through it,” White said after the game. “I was pretty anxious to come back after I got a little cut.”
“Yeah, it was 12 stitches,” White confirmed. “But I had no doubt that I wanted to come back.
“I was kind of out there for a minute. When they were walking me off I kind of had to stand there for a minute because I thought I was going to fall.”
White said the only scary part of the injury was looking at the reaction of his teammates.
“I had a lot of blood on my jersey,” White said. “It was kind of gushing out. When I saw the reaction on Kevin’s (Kruger) face, it kind of scared me. I was kind of like, ‘Oh, don’t do that to me.’ And I was kind of dizzy, too. I just had to sit there for a moment.
“Once I got the stitches in my chin it was hurting real bad and they numbed it with a shot in my neck. That’s when I really woke up. After that I didn’t really fell it at all.”
White, wearing uniform No. 14, scored five of his team-high 18 points down the stretch to help the Rebels pull away after Wyoming had closed to within three points.
“Wendell has come back from five or six injuries this season,” guard Wink Adams said. “Then to see him get cut in the chin and come back with stitches and still be able to play …
“Wendell is just an amazing player. He’s tough. He’s motivation for our team. If he keeps fighting after all that, then we’ve got to keep fighting with him.”
“It was the same old Wendell but only with a different jersey,” added point guard
White had to switch uniforms because his regular No. 5 was too covered with blood to continue to use.
White and the Runnin’ Rebels (21-5, 8-3) travel to San Diego State on Tuesday night.
